Confident Kids

During their time with the horses, children from schools and shelters such as Providence Network change from anxious victims to playful youngsters. The youngsters display increased confidence and less fear when encountering new situations as a result of their equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) experiences at the ranch. They learn empathy for other living creatures, and feel safe to share part of their lives with the animals. During EAP sessions children explore:

  • Safe boundaries, and who to trust
  • Teamwork and communication
  • Options and a feeling of control over their lives
  • Thinking for themselves, rather than copying others
  • Improved study skills and respect for teachers and parents

It’s freedom-something I can have that is my own and completely away from everything.”  –10-yr-old Susie
